Overview
Feed at body or room temperature. Whenever possible, kittens should be fed their mother's milk for a minimum of 2 days. Colostrum milk offers temporary immunity against certain illnesses, along with extra nutrition. This liquid may be administered daily at a rate of 2 tablespoons for every 4 ounces of body weight. Divide the daily feeding rate into equal portions to administer at each feeding. Weigh kittens each day to ensure proper feeding. The needs of each kitten will vary, and the amount might require increasing or decreasing based on the individual kitten. Larger kittens may only require feeding every 8 hours. Weak or small kittens may require feeding every 3 to 4 hours. Gently shake or stir 1 part KMR to 2 parts warm water. Never mix more KMR than will be used within 24 hours. Never use a blender to mix. Keep reconstituted KMR refrigerated. One can of powder (12 ounces) will make about 60 ounces of liquid, and one 28-ounce can of powder will make about 140 ounces when mixed at a 1:2 ratio. For more advice, consult your veterinarian. For feeding the majority of kittens, the PetAg 2-ounce Small Animal Nurser is a great option. When a kitten is old enough to begin lapping, offer reconstituted KMR from a saucer. In the fifth week of administration, combine reconstituted KMR with KMR 2nd Step Kitten Weaning Food. This will facilitate eventual graduation to solid food. Lactating or pregnant queens should be fed 2 teaspoons of KMR powder daily for every 5 pounds of body weight. Convalescing cats, show cats, or growing kittens already eating solid food should be fed 1 teaspoon KMR powder for every 5 pounds of body weight. Feed daily as a top dress over food.
