Helpful Tips:
Marquis is an excellent treatment for horses with Sarcocystis neurona. However, it may have little to no effect on pre-existing, irreversible central nervous system damage caused by protozoan parasites prior to therapy.
Overview
Individual tubes are available for purchase. A full course of therapy requires four tubes. The suggested dosage is 2.27 milligrams per pound of body weight taken once a day for 28 days. This paste is taken by mouth. This paste is packaged in 127-gram syringes that are ready to use. Ponazuril is included in 150mg per gram of paste. 1) Remove the end cap and gently push the plunger into the syringe barrel tip until paste appears. Replace the end cap on the syringe`s tip. 2) Weigh the horse to confirm appropriate dosage and that no feed remains in the animal`s mouth. 3) Make sure the dosage ring collar and barrel collar are flush when measuring doses. Hold the plunger in one hand, then rotate the dose ring to the horse`s weight with the other. 4) Remove the syringe barrel tip`s end cap. 5) Place the dose on the tongue`s top and back. Insert the syringe tip into the gap between the rear and front teeth in the mouth. To deposit the paste, depress the syringe plunger as far as the ring allows. The syringe tip should be removed from the horse`s mouth. 6) After administering the medication, immediately lift the horse`s head for a few seconds to aid swallowing. 7) Using a disposable, clean cloth, wipe the syringe tip, then replace the end cap on the syringe barrel tip. 8) Repeat steps 1–7 every day during the treatment time, discarding old syringes after the therapy is over.
